Dohne Merino
The Dohne Merino is a sheep breed that originated in South Africa - Introduced to Australia by our lead specialist Greg McCann. It is a meat and wool breed that is known for its hardiness, fertility, and adaptability. Dohne Merino sheep have a fine, white fleece that is high in quality. They are also good mothers and produce lambs that are easy to lamb.
Adult ewes weigh 50–70 kg, rams weigh 80–100 kg.
Dohne Merino sheep are highly fertile. Ewes can lamb twice a year and produce an average of 150 lambs per 100 ewes per year.
Dohne Merino sheep have high wool production. The annual production of fleece is 3.5 to 5 kg with an average diameter of 17 to 21 microns. The fleece is fine and white and can be used to make high–quality wool products.
Dohne Merino sheep also have good meat production. Yarki ripen by 10 months and can lamb. Lambs grow quickly and reach a market weight of 45–50 kg at the age of 6–7 months.
